Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Rooms
“One day, after gazing at a pattern of red flowers on the tablecloth, I looked up to see that the ceiling, the windows, and the columns seemed to be plastered with the same red floral pattern. I saw the entire room, my entire body, and the entire universe covered with red flowers, and in that instant, my soul was obliterated and I was restored, returned to infinity, to eternal time and absolute space.”
–Yayoi Kusama
With long queues and only less a minute inside the Infinity rooms, the immersive infinity rooms will take you into an illusion of infinite space and kaleidoscope environment. Stepping inside the room and peering out at the opening, which is the size of a small bedroom is a stimulating and hallucinating experience. Along with Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama is arguably one of the most popular artists and a huge influence to pop culture.
The room is walled with a mirror on all sides, even the ceiling. Looking at the horizons is a version of you in multiple and descending shapes. It is an infinite reflection of you on all sides. It’s psychedelic!
With less time and long line up waiting behind you, there’s a limited time to take photos and be amused by the mirror artworks. Here are some photos I took to share.

INFINITE OBLITERATION
‘Our earth is only one polka dot among a million stars in the cosmos. Polka dots are a way to infinity. When we obliterate nature and our bodies with polka dots, we become part of the unity of our environment.’ – KUSAMA
